As a fellow Christian
broadcaster , I
would appeal to you that we no longer have the luxury to produce and air
Christian programming that consistently leaves out the 3,000,000 Native
Americans living in the United States and indigenous peoples
globally. In the last
survey that was reported by the Assemblies of God, there was a 2%-3%
conversion rate among the indigenous people of this nation, alone, to
Christianity. Jean Steffenson , of the
Native American Resource Network, was woken
up by the Lord, several
years ago, with an
incredibly anguished burden from the Spirit of God. The Lord told her that
little would be accomplished by the church in this nation until the
church repented of the atrocities it has committed towards Native
Americans. Pine Ridge Reservation, of the Lakota People of
South Dakota, for example, has within it the poorest county in
this nation .
Just miles away from this reservation
are some of the richest gold reserves in this country . In order to obtain this rich land, the
government expatriated these
people to the nearby
wastelands. I am convinced that we won't experience true success, not only in our programs but in
our finances, until we incorporate these people and their spiritual needs into
our broadcast schedules. Jose
Alvarez
MaryLynn I am going to share you your comments with my
Native Believers E group because I think it will remind us, edify, and encourage
all us that are involved in ministries to Native Americans. If it is okay
with you I will put you on my mailing list to keep you updated on our end with
what is happening with Native American ministries.
Many blessings,
Jose Alvarez
